Yerevan Weather Update: Snow and Strong Winds Expected in Coming Days
Yerevan, January 12 – The Armenian capital, Yerevan, is set to experience varied weather conditions in the coming days, with snowfall anticipated on January 13 and 14. According to the latest forecast, the city will remain largely precipitation-free on January 11, 12, 14 (daytime), 15, and 16. However, residents should prepare for snow in the afternoon of January 13, and during the night and morning of January 14. Additionally, some separate regions of the republic are expected to see snowfall from the night of January 12 to January 15.
Wind Conditions and Temperature Outlook
Winds will be from the southwest, blowing at a speed of 2-5 meters per second. Notably, on the afternoon of January 11 and on January 12, certain areas may experience stronger winds, with gusts reaching 17-20 meters per second. The air temperature is not expected to change significantly during this period, maintaining the current cold conditions.
Road Conditions and Travel Advisories
Travelers are advised to exercise caution, especially in mountainous regions. The Vardenyats and Ketty mountain passes are currently closed for vehicles with trailers due to blizzards. The Parvana mountain pass is open for light passenger vehicles. Road conditions in other areas, such as Aparan, Chambarak, Gavar, Hrazdan, Goris, and Ashotsk, are reported to have icy patches. A blizzard has also been reported near the Surb Hovhannes chapel and on roads from Sevan Peninsula to Tsovagyugh, Chambarak, Aragats, and Artik regions.
Emergency services have been active, with reports of an ambulance unable to reach patients in Bjni village due to icy roads. Multiple car accidents have occurred, including a chain collision involving five vehicles in the Aragatsotn region due to black ice. These incidents highlight the importance of careful driving and preparedness for winter weather.
