Yerevan, March 1 – As of 10:10 AM on February 28, 2026, all inter-state and republican roads across Armenia are open to traffic. Road maintenance organizations are actively engaged in clearing snow and treating surfaces with salt and sand to ensure safe passage for vehicles.

Specific Road Conditions and Closures for Trailed Vehicles

Despite the general accessibility, certain mountain passes and road sections present challenges, particularly for trailed vehicles. The following areas are currently closed for such transport:

  • Vardenyats Pass
  • Gyumri-Ashotsk-Bavra highway
  • Gndevaz-Jermuk road
  • Vanadzor-Alaverdi road
  • Vanadzor-Dilijan road
  • The section from Jermuk intersection to Kapan
  • Voskepar-Baganis highway
  • Meghri Pass to Kajaran section
  • Spitak and Dilijan serpentine roads

Additionally, the Keti and Jajur mountain passes are reported to be difficult for trailed vehicles due to prevailing conditions.

Low Visibility and Snowfall Affecting Specific Regions

Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution on the Alagyaz-Tsilkar and Alagyaz-Norashen highways, which are difficult to navigate due to blizzard conditions and low visibility.

Snowfall is currently being observed in several regions across Armenia, including:

  • Sevan
  • Gavar
  • Chambarak
  • Vardenis
  • Martuni
  • Aparan
  • Aragats
  • Spitak
  • Stepanavan
  • Ararat
  • Yeghegnadzor
  • Vayk
  • Sisian
  • Goris
  • Artik
  • Ashotsk

Safety Recommendations for Drivers

The Road Department Foundation urges all drivers to be vigilant, strictly adhere to traffic rules, and use winter tires exclusively when traveling through these affected areas. These precautions are crucial for ensuring the safety of all road users during the current weather conditions.

Road Department Foundation officials stated that efforts to maintain road safety and accessibility will continue around the clock. Drivers are encouraged to check for real-time updates before embarking on their journeys, especially if their routes include the aforementioned difficult or closed sections.

The current weather patterns are typical for this time of year in Armenia, and road crews are well-prepared to handle the challenges posed by snow and ice. However, public cooperation in following safety guidelines is paramount to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow.
