Armenian Citizens Repatriated from Oman and UAE Amidst Middle East Conflict
Yerevan, March 3, 2026 – Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has expressed gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for its assistance in facilitating the return of Armenian citizens from Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The appreciation was conveyed during a telephone conversation between Minister Mirzoyan and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi, where they also discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East.
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that Minister Mirzoyan specifically thanked Oman for streamlining the necessary procedures for the repatriation of Armenian citizens. In a reciprocal gesture, the head of Armenia’s foreign policy department expressed Armenia’s readiness to provide assistance to Omani citizens regarding their transportation needs, should the necessity arise.
Repatriation Flights Underway
A private flight operated by FlyOne airline arrived in Yerevan this morning from Muscat, the capital of Oman. Another private flight is scheduled for tomorrow evening. These flights are crucial for Armenian citizens who have been stranded in various Gulf countries due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and wish to return to Yerevan. Passengers on these flights are required to cover the cost of their travel.
Earlier today, the Armenian Embassy in the UAE announced that transportation from the UAE to Oman would be provided free of charge, easing the burden on those seeking to return home. This initiative follows previous efforts by the Armenian MFA to organize flights for citizens stranded in Abu Dhabi due to canceled flights. The MFA had previously stated, “citizens who wish to voluntarily travel to Armenia via Oman can fill out an application.”
Background to the Repatriation Efforts
The need for these repatriation efforts stems from widespread flight cancellations and disrupted cruise schedules in the Middle East, leaving many Armenian citizens unable to return to Armenia. The escalating conflict in the region has significantly impacted travel and safety, prompting the Armenian government to coordinate with regional partners to ensure the safe return of its nationals.
Ongoing Diplomatic Engagements
The phone conversation between Minister Mirzoyan and Minister Al Busaidi underscores the importance of bilateral cooperation during times of regional instability. Such diplomatic engagements are vital for ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens abroad and for coordinating humanitarian efforts. The Armenian government continues to monitor the situation closely and remains committed to assisting its citizens affected by the conflict.
The Armenian MFA has been actively working to address the challenges faced by its citizens in the Middle East, providing updates and guidance through its official channels and diplomatic missions. These efforts highlight the government’s dedication to its diaspora and its proactive stance in managing international crises that impact its citizens.
