Yerevan Begins Construction of Shelter for 300 Stray Dogs
Yerevan, April 6 – Construction work has officially begun in Yerevan on a new shelter intended to house approximately 300 stray dogs, as announced by the city hall. This project aims to significantly improve the welfare of stray animals in the capital and manage their population more effectively.
The facility will ensure that all animals undergo mandatory sterilization and vaccination upon arrival. It is anticipated that the operation of this new shelter will boost the number of adoptions and consequently reduce the presence of stray animals on the streets of Yerevan.
Focus on Problematic Areas
Priority for admitting dogs to the shelter will be given to those found in the most problematic areas, including the vicinities of schools, kindergartens, and medical institutions. This strategic approach is designed to mitigate immediate public health and safety concerns associated with stray animals in sensitive locations.
Volunteer Involvement Crucial for Care
The care process for animals within the shelter will be largely supported by the involvement of volunteers. A recruitment drive for volunteers has already been launched. Meetings and discussions, along with preparatory volunteer work, are scheduled to take place before the shelter officially opens its doors to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in Yerevan’s efforts to humanely manage its stray animal population, fostering a safer and healthier environment for both residents and animals.
