Eurasian Sports Cooperation Forum Concludes in Yerevan with Key Leadership Election
Yerevan, Armenia – The first Eurasian Sports Cooperation Forum, an event of unprecedented scale and nature, concluded in Yerevan on April 11, 2026. The forum brought together presidents of Olympic Committees from various European and Asian countries, including Germany, China, Moldova, Lithuania, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and other nations, alongside influential figures in global sports.
During the forum, Gagik Tsarukyan, President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee (ANOC), was elected as the President of the Eurasian Sports Cooperation Association. This election marks an exceptionally significant development for both international and domestic sports, as it substantially enhances Armenia’s opportunities to play a substantial role and maintain a strong presence in international sports relations and crucial projects.
Armenia’s Growing Role in International Sports
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Tsarukyan highlighted that the forum serves as a unique platform where sports become a unifying force, bridging the peoples of Europe and Asia. He emphasized, “The organization of such an event in our country signifies the perception of our state as an active and reliable partner in the international arena.”
Tsarukyan further stated that the Armenian Olympic Committee is prepared to act as a host for joint training camps for athletes from member states. He underscored the exceptional suitability of Armenia’s sports facilities, climate, and geographical relief for various sports disciplines.
Proposals for Enhanced Cooperation
In his address, Gagik Tsarukyan proposed the implementation of large-scale joint projects for the exchange of coaches and sports specialists. He called for concerted efforts to develop sports at an international level and to facilitate the exchange of leading practices among several states across the Eurasian continent.
The forum’s outcomes are expected to foster stronger ties and collaborative initiatives in the sports sector, promoting mutual understanding and development within the Eurasian region.
