YEREVAN, Armenia – On July 4th, at 7:43 PM, the National Crisis Management Center received a report that a police car was trapped in a large puddle near the Factory Metro Station in Yerevan, under a bridge. Assistance from rescuers was requested to extract the vehicle, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia.

Emergency Response and Six Trapped Vehicles

A fire-rescue team from the Yerevan City Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene. However, the police car was removed from the puddle before the rescuers arrived.

Upon further inspection, it was discovered that six other vehicles were also trapped in the puddle, which had accumulated due to the torrential rain. Rescuers, working alongside citizens, successfully extracted all the trapped vehicles from the water.

Heavy Rains Cause Localized Flooding

The incident highlights the impact of heavy rainfall on urban infrastructure, leading to localized flooding and challenges for motorists. The area near the Factory Metro Station, particularly under the bridge, appears to be prone to such accumulations of water during intense downpours.

This event occurred amidst other ongoing news in Armenia, including reports of a major fire on Kurghinyan Street that led to four hospitalizations, a tragic car accident in the Shirak region resulting in the death of a 21-year-old driver, and the remote work arrangements for institutions in the center on May 5th, as announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. Additionally, the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis suspended cooperation with the European Parliament.

Community and Emergency Services Collaboration

The successful extraction of the vehicles underscores the importance of prompt emergency response and community cooperation during such incidents. The collaboration between citizens and rescuers ensured that all trapped vehicles were freed without further complications.

The Armenian Hydrometeorological and Monitoring Center often issues warnings regarding adverse weather conditions, and residents are advised to exercise caution during heavy rainfall to avoid areas prone to flooding.

The incident serves as a reminder for urban planners and local authorities to assess and improve drainage systems in areas susceptible to flooding, especially in key transportation hubs like those near metro stations.

Further details regarding the extent of any damage to the trapped vehicles or the specific measures taken to address the flooding in the affected area were not immediately available.
