YEREVAN, May 3 – A fire erupted in one of the apartment buildings on Kurghinyan Street in Yerevan in the early hours of Friday, May 3, 2026. The alarm was received by the 112 operational management center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at 03:38 AM.
Emergency Services Respond Swiftly
Upon receiving the distress call, four fire and rescue teams from the Yerevan City Rescue Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Rescue Service, along with one aerial ladder, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Additionally, on-duty groups from the Firefighting and Rescue Operations Organization Department and the Psychological Support and Medical Provision Department were deployed.
It was determined that the fire originated in an apartment on the 6th floor of the building. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze by 04:29 AM and extinguished it completely by 04:40 AM.
Significant Damage and Evacuations
The fire caused extensive damage to the living room, kitchen, hallway, and balcony of the affected apartment, including their contents. Two other rooms in the same apartment suffered heat damage. Furthermore, window frames of an apartment on the 7th floor were also affected by the heat.
In a swift and coordinated effort, fire and rescue personnel evacuated 20 citizens from the building. Four of the evacuated individuals required hospitalization due to injuries or smoke inhalation sustained during the incident.
In addition to the apartment damage, debris falling from the burning building caused damage to a Nissan car parked near the building. The prompt and effective actions of the fire and rescue teams were crucial in preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments and causing further destruction.
Investigation into the Cause Underway
The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Rescue Service has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
