Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan Outlines Agenda for Civil Contract Party’s Extraordinary Congress

Yerevan, April 4 – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has informed the public via a Facebook post about the key issues that will be put to a vote during the 8th extraordinary congress of the Civil Contract Party. The congress is scheduled to take place today, April 4, at 2:00 PM at the Sports and Concert Complex.

Key Votes at the Congress

Prime Minister Pashinyan outlined the following issues that will be subject to open voting during the plenary session:

  • Approval of the Party’s Electoral List: The party’s electoral list for the June 7, 2026 elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia will be approved. The order of candidates on the list was determined by closed, secret ballot, and the results have been published. The draft electoral list (Appendix N 1) is available on the party’s official website in the “News” section.
  • Confirmation of Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister Candidate: Nikol Pashinyan, Chairman of the Board, will be confirmed as the party’s candidate for Prime Minister. This candidacy was also selected through a closed, secret ballot, and the results have been made public.
  • Approval of the Party’s Election Program: The party’s pre-election program for the 2026 National Assembly elections (Appendix N 2) will be approved. This draft program was adopted by a decision of the Board and is also available on the party’s official website in the “News” section.

In the same post, it was emphasized that at the beginning of the plenary session, the chairman and secretaries of the congress will be elected by open vote. The Board has proposed candidates for the Chairman and Deputy Chairmen, respectively.

Context of the Congress

The extraordinary congress comes amidst a period of significant political activity in Armenia. Recent statements from party members and the Prime Minister himself highlight the ongoing focus on peace and the future direction of the country.

  • “Take Care of Peace” Slogan: The Civil Contract Party will participate in the elections under the slogan “Take Care of Peace,” emphasizing a commitment to stability and a peaceful future for Armenia.
  • Completion of Mission: Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that the mission undertaken in 2018 is not yet complete, suggesting a continued agenda for reform and development.
  • People as Subjects of Policy: Pashinyan underscored that the people of Armenia have transformed from objects to subjects of policies and strategies within their own homeland.

Ararat Mirzoyan, a prominent figure in the party, noted that during the most difficult trials, Armenian citizens and the Civil Contract Party have not abandoned each other. Srbouhi Galyan emphasized the need for a Constitution centered on human rights, while Alen Simonyan described the Civil Contract Party as the most institutional, rapidly developing, and democratic political force in Armenia.

Earlier today, Nikol Pashinyan was unanimously elected as the Civil Contract Party’s candidate for Prime Minister.

In related news, the President of Armenia expressed hope that the light of Resurrection would strengthen faith in their own abilities and lead them to lasting peace, following his attendance at the Holy Resurrection vigil service. The Prime Minister also attended the service. Additionally, precipitation is expected in Armenia in the coming days.
