Yerevan, February 17 – Armenia’s high-tech industry achieved a record-breaking performance in 2025, with the sector’s total turnover surpassing 1 trillion drams, equivalent to approximately 2.63 billion US dollars. This was announced by Minister Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the official responsible for the sector.
Significant Growth in High-Tech Sector
The registered growth represents a substantial increase compared to the previous year’s 915 billion drams (2.41 billion dollars). Minister Hayrapetyan attributed this rise not only to software services but also to the expansion of electronics production and assembly volumes within the country.
Export volumes also demonstrated positive dynamics, reaching 715.5 billion drams (1.88 billion dollars) in 2025. This is up from approximately 702 billion drams (1.85 billion dollars) in 2024, indicating a healthy and expanding international market for Armenian high-tech products and services.
Key Drivers of the Growth
According to Babken Tunyan, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, the IT sector itself experienced a real growth of 23.2%, reaching 633.2 billion drams (1.67 billion dollars). The sector’s share in the overall structure of services constituted 15.5%, highlighting its increasing importance to the Armenian economy.
Official statistics presented by the MP indicate that as of the end of 2025, the information and communication sector employed 46,000 people. The average salary in this sector exceeded 1 million drams (approximately 2,630 dollars), making it one of the most attractive and well-paying industries in Armenia.
Impact of State Policies and Future Outlook
Experts link this significant economic activity to state policies, particularly the new legislative package supporting the sector, which came into force on January 1, 2025. This policy framework has evidently created a conducive environment for the high-tech industry to thrive.
The continued growth of the high-tech sector is crucial for Armenia’s economic development, fostering innovation, creating high-value jobs, and enhancing the country’s competitive edge in the global market. The government’s strategic focus on supporting this industry is yielding tangible results, positioning Armenia as a growing hub for technological advancement in the region.
This impressive performance underscores Armenia’s commitment to becoming a knowledge-based economy and its potential to attract further foreign investment and talent in the high-tech domain.
