YEREVAN, June 11 – A company has fully reimbursed the state budget for damages totaling AMD 13,894,935, following an investigation into the import of undeclared meat products. The preliminary investigation, conducted by the Investigative Department of Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, uncovered irregularities in the company’s import activities.

Undeclared Imports and Tax Evasion

The investigation revealed that the company imported a total of 48,000 kg of meat products into the Republic of Armenia, which were not included in its official license. With the assistance of a customs brokerage company, the importing entity subsequently submitted distorted data to the tax authorities in its declarations. This manipulation resulted in the company paying only 25% customs duty instead of the required 80% for the imported goods.

This fraudulent activity led to a shortfall of AMD 13,894,935 in tax and duty payments to the state budget.

Full Recovery of Damages

During the course of the preliminary investigation, the full amount of the damage caused to the state was completely recovered. This recovery underscores the commitment of the investigative bodies to protect state interests and ensure accountability for financial misconduct.

Broader Efforts to Protect State Interests

This case is part of a broader initiative by the Investigative Committee of Armenia to safeguard state interests and recover funds lost due to various illicit activities. Recent reports from the Investigative Committee highlight similar efforts:

  • June 4, 2026: Two properties located in the Kentron administrative district of Yerevan were returned to the Republic of Armenia within the framework of protecting state interests.
  • June 3, 2026: AMD 100 million in damages caused to the state was recovered.
  • April 9, 2026: A company director presented distorted data regarding salaries, and AMD 11 million in damages to the state was recovered.
  • April 1, 2026: As a result of prosecutorial intervention, the equivalent of approximately 454 thousand US dollars in damages caused to the state was recovered.
  • March 23, 2026: The preliminary investigation of a criminal case initiated on the fact of illegal hunting of a Bezoar goat recorded in the Red Book was completed, and the damage caused to the state was recovered.

These actions demonstrate a concerted effort by Armenian authorities to combat economic crimes and ensure proper financial contributions to the state budget.
