Construction Worker Dies After Fall at Elite Yerevan Building Site

Yerevan, March 3 – A tragic incident occurred today at a construction site for an elite new building in Yerevan, resulting in the death of a 49-year-old worker. The individual, identified as Nver D. from the Gegharkunik region, fell from a height of approximately 3 meters while working as a rebar installer.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an alarm was received by the 112 operational management center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia around 10:00 AM, reporting a body at a construction site located at 23 Gogol Street in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district.

Officers from the Kanaker-Zeytun police department, led by Senior Community Police Officer Hakobyan, arrived at the scene. Investigations revealed that Nver D. died on the spot after the fall.

Criminal Case Initiated Over Safety Violations

A criminal case has been initiated by the investigative department concerning the incident, specifically for non-compliance with safety rules during work, which led to a person’s death. Shamshyan’s information confirms that the deceased was employed at the construction site as a rebar installer.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding workplace safety in the construction sector, particularly in rapidly developing urban areas like Yerevan. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to this fatality and to ensure accountability.

Previous Incidents and Broader Context of Workplace Safety

This is not an isolated incident concerning workplace safety or accidental deaths in Armenia. The provided data includes several other emergency incidents and criminal chronicles:

  • October 18, 2025: Rescuers brought a citizen down a mountain slope on a stretcher from about 300 meters.
  • May 2, 2023: A criminal case was initiated regarding a child falling from a window at the “Shirakatsi” Lyceum.
  • November 10, 2022: The body of a 70-year-old woman was found in the courtyard of a Yerevan building.
  • August 12, 2020: A 27-year-old man fell from a house roof while performing construction work.
  • July 18, 2020: The condition of a child who fell from the 4th floor in Gyumri remained extremely serious.

These past events underscore the critical need for stricter adherence to safety regulations and regular inspections at construction sites and other workplaces to prevent such tragedies. The ongoing investigation into Nver D.’s death will be crucial in identifying any lapses in safety protocols and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.

The construction industry, while vital for urban development, often poses significant risks to workers if safety standards are not rigorously enforced. This latest fatality serves as a somber reminder of the human cost when these standards are compromised.
