Difficult Passages and Icy Roads Across Shirak Province
Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia, January 16 – Drivers in Shirak Province are advised to exercise extreme caution as several roads, including key routes, are experiencing difficult passage conditions for vehicles with trailers. Icy patches have also been reported across various regions, according to information released by the Rescue Service of Armenia.
The Spitak turns, as well as the Spitak-Gyumri and Vanadzor-Dilijan highways, are particularly challenging for vehicles with trailers. In the “Chainy turns” section, along with roads in Sevan, Chambarak, Martuni, Gavar, Aparan, Aragats, Abovyan, Hrazdan, Nairi, Sisian, Goris, Ashotsk, and Amasia regions, black ice is present in certain areas, increasing the risk of accidents.
Furthermore, snow is falling in the Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik provinces (excluding the city of Sevan), as well as in the Martuni, Ararat, Sisian, Goris, and Kapan regions. Drivers are strongly urged to equip their vehicles with winter tires to ensure safety on these hazardous roads.
Lars Road Remains Closed for All Types of Vehicles
In addition to the challenging internal road conditions, the Stepanstminda-Lars highway, a crucial connection to Georgia, remains closed for all types of vehicles. This information has been confirmed by the Crisis Management Center of the North Ossetia Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and the Department of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The closure of the Lars road will continue to impact international travel and cargo transportation, requiring alternative routes and potentially causing delays for those planning to cross the border.
Ongoing Winter Conditions and Safety Recommendations
The current weather patterns indicate a continuation of winter conditions across Armenia. The Rescue Service regularly updates road information, and it is imperative for all drivers to check the latest reports before embarking on any journey, especially to affected regions.
The safety of commuters and travelers is paramount. Adhering to traffic regulations, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, and reducing speed are crucial measures to prevent incidents on these difficult and icy roads. Authorities also recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
The ongoing challenges highlight the importance of preparedness and vigilance for all road users in Shirak Province and other affected areas of Armenia during the winter season.
