Russia asserts right to discuss Armenian elections with Yerevan
Yerevan, April 5, 2026 – Russia believes it has the right to clarify the Armenian leadership’s plans regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections in the republic, as stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.
“We believe that we have the right to try to clarify this with our partners and actually discuss their plans,” Peskov said in an interview with “Vesti” correspondent, referring to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia.
Peskov noted that Armenia and Russia share deep historical roots, which is why Yerevan’s political orientation is of interest to Moscow.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who was in Moscow on a working visit. During the conversation, the Russian leader emphasized that the escalation of internal political tensions in Armenia before the elections should not harm relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
