Snowfall and Icy Roads Reported in Gyumri, Ashotsk, and Artik

Gyumri, Shirak Province, January 17 – Significant snowfall has affected the cities of Gyumri, Ashotsk, and Artik, leading to challenging driving conditions and some road closures. The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs Rescue Service has issued warnings and updates regarding the current situation.

Road Closures and Difficult Passages

Several roads in the Aragatsotn Province are currently closed, including the high-mountain meteorological station “Amberd” to Amberd Fortress and Lake Kari. Additionally, the Noravan-Harzhis-Shinuhayr and Noravan-Ltsen-Tatev roads are closed for trucks with trailers.

The Vardenyats Pass is also closed for trucks with trailers and difficult to pass for other vehicles due to severe weather. Drivers are strongly advised to use winter tires when traveling in these areas.

Icy Conditions Across Multiple Regions

Icy patches have been reported on roads in various regions, including Aparan, Aragats, Dilijan, Sevan, Chambarak, Martuni, Gavar, Abovyan, Hrazdan, Nairi, Sisian, Goris, Ashotsk, and Amasia. These conditions pose a significant risk to motorists, and extreme caution is recommended.

Lars Checkpoint Status

According to information received from the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Emergency Situations Department and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations’ North Ossetia Crisis Management Center, the Stepanstminda-Lars highway is open for all types of vehicles. However, drivers should remain vigilant and prepared for changing conditions.

The Rescue Service emphasizes the critical importance of using winter tires for all vehicles operating in the affected areas. This measure is essential for ensuring safety and preventing accidents on snowy and icy roads.
