Tragic Car Accident in Shirak Province: Six Dead, Children Critically Injured

Yerevan, April 12 – A devastating car accident that took place yesterday, April 11, in Shirak Province, near the village of Aghin, has claimed the lives of six individuals, including two children. Five other people were hospitalized, with the condition of a 1-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy described as extremely critical. They are currently on artificial respiration.

Details of the Collision

The accident occurred around 12:00 PM on the Armavir-Gyumri highway, involving a BMW and an Opel. The BMW, driven by 35-year-old Karlen A., veered off the road and overturned after colliding with the Opel, driven by 30-year-old Elamir Kh. The impact was severe, leading to immediate fatalities and serious injuries.

Victims Identified

Among the deceased are 64-year-old Lia H., a passenger in the BMW, and Elamir Kh., the driver of the Opel. Four other passengers from the Opel also lost their lives: 56-year-old Leili Kh., 20-year-old Arman T., 5-year-old Ruzanna Kh., and 1-year-old Mihran Kh.

Injured in Critical Condition

The injured include Karlen A., the driver of the BMW, and four passengers from the Opel: 27-year-old Mariam T., 8-year-old Leili Kh., 3-year-old Tigran Kh., and 1-year-old Davit Kh. They were initially transported to Gyumri Medical Center and subsequently transferred to specialized hospitals in Yerevan.

Mariam Tsatryan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the 1-year-old and 3-year-old boys are in extremely critical condition and are on artificial respiration. The 8-year-old girl’s condition is serious, and all three children are in the intensive care unit. The mother of the children, a 28-year-old woman, is also in extremely critical condition and has been transferred to Erebuni Medical Center.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. The cause of the collision is yet to be determined. The incident has cast a somber mood across the region, highlighting the critical importance of road safety.
