Shirak Province, Armenia, April 19 – Traffic on the Spitak-Gyumri highway was disrupted on Wednesday evening when a tree fell across the road, approximately 15 kilometers from the city of Spitak. The incident, reported at 7:40 PM, necessitated the intervention of emergency services to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow.
Emergency Response and Road Clearance
The Lori Regional Crisis Management Center received a report at 19:40 on April 19, stating that a tree had fallen onto the carriageway of the Spitak-Gyumri highway, obstructing traffic. The assistance of rescuers was immediately requested.
In response to the alert, one combat crew from the fire-rescue squad of the Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene. The rescuers promptly arrived and successfully removed the tree from the road, allowing traffic to resume.
The incident occurred on a key thoroughfare connecting Spitak and Gyumri, two significant cities in Armenia. While no injuries or accidents were reported as a direct result of the fallen tree, the obstruction temporarily halted vehicle movement, causing minor delays for commuters.
Authorities have not yet provided details regarding the cause of the tree fall, though it is common for such incidents to occur due to strong winds or natural decay, particularly in forested or tree-lined areas adjacent to roadways.
The swift response by the emergency services ensured that the disruption was minimal and that the road was cleared efficiently, highlighting the effectiveness of Armenia’s crisis management protocols.
