Weapon Found in Mercedes in Yerevan; Driver Arrested

YEREVAN, March 16 – In a late-night operation, a 36-year-old resident of Yerevan was arrested after a 9mm pistol was found in a Mercedes-Benz. The incident occurred on March 13, around 3:15 AM, on Isakov Avenue in the capital.

Police Act on Tip-Off Regarding Illegal Weapon Possession

Officers from the Vagharshapat Department of the Community Police received operational intelligence indicating that a 36-year-old Yerevan resident was illegally storing weapons and ammunition in his Mercedes-Benz vehicle. In collaboration with the Armavir region patrol service, an operative-investigative measure was undertaken.

As a result of these efforts, the Mercedes, driven by a 39-year-old resident of Arevashat village in the Armavir region, was stopped on Isakov Avenue. The vehicle was subsequently transported to the Vagharshapat Department of the Community Police for further investigation.

Driver Arrested, Criminal Proceedings Initiated

The 36-year-old Yerevan resident, suspected of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, was also located and arrested in the Tairov settlement. He was then transferred to the Vagharshapat Investigative Department along with the compiled documentation.

A criminal proceeding has been initiated in this regard. During the inspection conducted as part of the criminal proceeding, a 9mm pistol was discovered in the glove compartment of the Mercedes, which had been moved to a specially protected area. The 36-year-old individual has been placed in a detention facility.

Investigation Underway, Police Urge Voluntary Surrender of Illegal Weapons

A preliminary investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the case. The police emphasize that a suspect or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the criminal procedure code of the Republic of Armenia by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.

The police also urged citizens to voluntarily surrender illegally held weapons and ammunition to avoid criminal liability.
