Yerevan Demands Strict Oversight for Kievyan Bridge Renovation
Yerevan, June 23 – Yerevan City Hall is tightening its control over the ongoing renovation of the Kievyan Bridge, a vital transport artery in the capital. The intensified oversight aims to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the project’s timely completion, according to a statement released after a working consultation on June 22.
During the consultation, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan addressed the progress of the reconstruction of the Kievyan Bridge, one of the city’s main transport hubs. Andranik Tevosyan, acting head of the City Hall’s Construction and Improvement Department, presented a report outlining the extensive scope of the project.
Comprehensive Renovation for a Key Infrastructure
The large-scale project includes the complete restoration of both vehicular and pedestrian zones, modernization of drainage systems and waterproofing, and the renewal of support pillars and safety systems. Mayor Avinyan, while acknowledging the positive pace of construction, underscored the critical importance of adhering to the schedule.
He emphasized that while ensuring the structural safety of the bridge is paramount, the ongoing works have already caused significant traffic jams in Yerevan. Therefore, according to Avinyan, control over the quality and deadlines of the work must be as strict and consistent as possible.
The Kievyan Bridge has been fully closed to traffic since June 17 due to the renovation works and will remain inaccessible to vehicles until August 29 of the current year. This closure has prompted concerns about potential traffic disruptions and the need for efficient management of the project.
Wider Implications for Yerevan’s Infrastructure
The renovation of the Kievyan Bridge is part of a broader effort to upgrade Yerevan’s infrastructure. The city has been experiencing rapid development, leading to increased traffic and a greater need for modern and safe transportation networks. The successful and timely completion of this project is crucial for maintaining the flow of traffic and supporting the city’s economic activities.
The Mayor’s proactive approach to monitoring the project reflects a commitment to minimizing inconvenience for residents and ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively. The City Hall is expected to continue regular inspections and consultations to keep the project on track.
Local residents and businesses have expressed their understanding of the necessity of the renovation but also their hope for a swift conclusion to the works. The temporary closure has led to rerouting of public transport and increased travel times for many commuters, highlighting the bridge’s importance in daily urban life.
Further updates on the renovation progress are anticipated from Yerevan City Hall, as the project moves forward towards its scheduled completion in late August.
