Yerevan, Armenia – The Yerevan Municipality is set to revolutionize its urban management practices by incorporating artificial intelligence tools, with plans to deploy specialized vehicles equipped with advanced sensors to monitor city infrastructure and public spaces.
AI-Powered Monitoring for Enhanced Urban Living
During a recent operational meeting, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that the city would acquire a new vehicle next year. This vehicle, outfitted with Lidar equipment and other special devices, will traverse Yerevan’s streets to record the condition of asphalt, identify illegal advertisements, and detect accumulating waste.
“In fact, without human involvement, even without the ‘Active Citizen’ platform, we are already receiving data on potholes in Yerevan through cameras placed on our buses and the integrated artificial intelligence system,” stated Mayor Avinyan, highlighting the progress made in implementing AI tools.
Automating City Management Functions
The Mayor further elaborated on the capabilities of the upcoming vehicle: “Next year, we are acquiring a separate car with its Lidar equipment, which will simply drive through all the streets, recording not only the condition of Yerevan’s asphalt but also accumulating waste in various areas, illegal advertisements, and everything else we program into it.”
This initiative aims to automate functions that previously required various departments to physically inspect and address. Avinyan noted that, consequently, the functions of these departments would undergo some changes, shifting towards more data-driven and efficient operations.
