Yerevan is embracing advanced technology to enhance urban management. Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced today, December 22, during a regular operational meeting of the Yerevan City Hall, that data on the city’s condition is now being collected without human intervention, using cameras installed on buses and an integrated artificial intelligence system. This initiative precedes the full deployment of a dedicated AI-powered monitoring vehicle.
AI-Powered GIS System for Comprehensive Urban Data
The announcement was made following a presentation of the updated unified informational GIS system, which leverages artificial intelligence for the collection and analysis of spatial data. This system is designed to provide real-time, accurate information on various urban issues, streamlining the city’s response mechanisms.
Mayor Avinyan further revealed that next year, a specialized vehicle equipped with ‘Lidar’ devices will be acquired. This vehicle will systematically patrol all streets of the capital, meticulously recording the condition of the asphalt, accumulated waste, illegal advertisements, and any other relevant observations.
Automated Enforcement and Reduced Human Factor
“We need to understand that in many cases, physical visits may not be necessary. We may need to change our legal framework, and what is recorded by the automated system should simply be sent to the economic entity as a violation with a fine,” Avinyan stated. He emphasized that this approach would eliminate the human factor and potential ‘agreements’, ensuring that violations are recorded and fines are issued automatically.
This shift towards automated monitoring and enforcement is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and impartiality of urban oversight. By minimizing human involvement, the city aims to reduce opportunities for corruption and ensure consistent application of regulations.

Avinyan instructed all departments to have specialists in place by the end of the year who will manage their respective sections of the newly implemented spatial information portal.
