YEREVAN, January 12 – The Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center of the Armenian Ministry of Environment has issued a weather forecast indicating a substantial drop in temperatures and the onset of winter precipitation in the capital, Yerevan, and across the republic.
Temperature Plunge Expected Mid-Week
Temperatures are predicted to gradually decrease by 10-13 degrees Celsius between January 14 and 16. This significant change follows a period of relatively milder weather.
Yerevan’s Forecast: Snow and Sleet on January 13
For Yerevan, no precipitation is expected on the afternoon of January 12, the afternoon of January 14, and from January 15-17. However, the afternoon of January 13 will see sleet and rain, transitioning to snow in the evening of January 13, and during the night and morning of January 13-14.
Republic-Wide Precipitation and Strong Winds
Across the territory of Armenia, no precipitation is anticipated on the afternoon of January 12, and from January 16-17. However, on January 13, precipitation is expected in isolated regions during the night, and widely across most regions from late afternoon into the evening, and during the night and morning of January 13-14. Isolated areas will also experience precipitation during the afternoon of January 14 and on January 15. This precipitation will manifest as sleet and rain in foothill and valley zones on the afternoon of January 13, turning into snow across the entire republic from the evening hours of January 13.
Heavy snowfall is predicted in some areas on January 13-14. Certain mountainous regions may experience blizzards and low horizontal visibility.
Winds will be from the southwest at 2-5 m/s. However, wind intensification of 18-22 m/s is expected in some areas on the afternoon of January 12, and 15-18 m/s on January 13-14.

This weather shift follows a series of recent events in Yerevan, including a 10-hour water outage in one administrative district today, January 13, and a separate 11-hour outage yesterday, January 12, due to an accident. The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia was summoned to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 12 regarding statements made by Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov. Furthermore, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed his views on the need for clarification of fundamental concepts in the field of justice on January 12.
City authorities are also considering restricting vehicle access to certain streets in Yerevan, excluding public transport, once a new public transport system is fully implemented. Regarding public health, influenza A subtype H3N2 pathogens are circulating in Armenia, with low disease activity. Nearly 68% of cases are among individuals aged 0-18, with the highest incidence continuing in the 0-4 age group. Finally, Avinyan expressed indignation on January 12 regarding business owners demanding payment for snow removal on the streets, stating that administrative districts failing to impose appropriate fines would need to provide explanations.
