Yerevan, December 22 – The city of Yerevan is slated to construct a new gas distribution station and an additional 7.5 kilometers of new gas supply network by 2026. This significant development was announced by Kamo Areyan, advisor to the Mayor of Yerevan, during an operational meeting at the City Hall, as reported by Armenpress.
Continued Expansion of Gas Infrastructure
Areyan detailed the progress of the gas supply network construction program, which was initiated at the end of 2023. “The program to build a new gas supply network in the eastern and southern parts of Yerevan for 2025 was approved. It covered 12 streets across three administrative districts – Nor Nork, Nor Marash, Erebuni, and partially Nubarashen – totaling 24.7 km,” Areyan stated. He confirmed that works have been completed in 9 streets, covering 17.1 km, with the final stages currently underway in Vardashen.
The program is set to continue into 2026, with an additional 7.5 km of network, including the Nor Kharberd district. This extension will encompass three streets: Khachik Dashtents, the entire length of Nubarashen highway, and Gurgen Mahari.
First-Ever City Gas Distribution Station
A key highlight of the upcoming developments is the construction of a new gas distribution station within the capital in 2026. “Most importantly, a new gas distribution station will be built in the capital in 2026, which the city has never had, apart from the existing three out-of-town gas distribution stations, one of which is in Nubarashen,” the Mayor’s advisor noted.
Areyan emphasized that out of the initial 24.7 km, only 7.5 km remains for completion in 2026. He further explained that the program was launched at the direct initiative of Tigran Avinyan at the end of 2023, following a critical gas supply issue faced by the capital. “Newly constructed multi-apartment buildings were in distress, lacking sufficient gas supply. Gazprom also faced the same problem,” Areyan recounted.
Addressing Previous Supply Shortages
The program, which commenced at the end of 2023, has already yielded significant results in 2024. “As a result of this program, we now have a newly constructed gas supply network totaling 57.1 km in the city. The anxiety that newly constructed multi-apartment buildings might face problems has been eliminated,” said the Mayor’s advisor, adding that this is one of the most successful life-support programs in the capital.
The entire project is expected to conclude in 2026.
