Yerevan, December 22 – The contract for the major renovation of the Kievyan Bridge in Yerevan was terminated on December 10. A revised project and a new tender for construction works are anticipated by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with the goal of executing the construction during the summer holidays. This announcement was made today, December 22, during a regular operational meeting at Yerevan City Hall by Andranik Tevosyan, Acting Head of the Construction and Improvement Department of the City Hall staff.

Comprehensive Maintenance for Yerevan’s Bridges

Tevosyan presented slides with photographs, stating, “Within the framework of the program for the maintenance of bridges and bridge structures in Yerevan, maintenance work has been carried out on 28 bridge infrastructures.” He detailed the scope of work, which included:

  • Repair of deformation joints
  • Cleaning of drainage pipes
  • Replacement of damaged pipes with new ones
  • Installation of new drainage manholes and grids
  • Greasing, painting, and straightening of wheel guards
  • Painting of road fences
  • Replacement of damaged sections of fences with new ones
  • Replacement and installation of new road reflectors

Additionally, the maintenance efforts extended to painting bridge railings, plastering and painting the back surfaces of bridges, and treating and painting corroded surfaces of metal bridges.

Extensive Road Renovation Program Completed

Tevosyan also reported on the 2025 road renovation program for Yerevan, which involved the full implementation of 200,000 square meters of road renovation works. As part of these efforts, the asphalt-concrete pavement of deformed wavy sections in several major intersections was completely replaced. This comprehensive approach underscores the city’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and ensuring the safety and efficiency of its transportation network.

Future Plans for Kievyan Bridge

The termination of the initial contract for the Kievyan Bridge renovation signals a new phase for this crucial infrastructure project. The planned revision of the project aims to ensure that the subsequent construction work is carried out efficiently and effectively. By scheduling the construction during the summer holidays, the city intends to minimize disruption to traffic and daily life for Yerevan residents.

The upcoming tender process in early 2026 will be a critical step in selecting a new contractor for the project. City officials emphasize their commitment to transparency and securing the best possible outcome for the renovation of the Kievyan Bridge, a vital artery in the city’s transport system. The focus remains on delivering a high-quality, durable solution that will serve the city for many years to come.

The city’s ongoing efforts in infrastructure maintenance and development reflect a proactive stance towards urban improvement. Regular inspections and timely repairs of bridges and roads are essential for public safety and the smooth functioning of urban services. The detailed report provided by the City Hall highlights a systematic approach to addressing the city’s infrastructure needs, from minor repairs to major renovation projects like the Kievyan Bridge.

Yerevan City Hall continues to monitor the condition of its infrastructure and plans further initiatives to enhance urban living. The commitment to maintaining and upgrading public facilities is a key priority for the municipal administration, aiming to create a safer and more comfortable environment for all residents and visitors.
