Gyumri, Shirak Province – On December 23, 2025, Shirak Province Governor Davit Arushanyan organized a reception to honor athletes and their coaches who achieved remarkable success in various championships and international tournaments throughout 2025. The event celebrated the region’s sporting prowess and recognized the dedication of those who represented Shirak Province on national and global stages.
Record-Breaking Medal Haul for Shirak Athletes
According to “Armenpress,” athletes representing Shirak Province secured an impressive 500 medals in official Armenian championships during 2025. This included 166 gold, 146 silver, and 183 bronze medals, showcasing the depth of talent within the region.
Furthermore, Shirak Province athletes excelled in international competitions, bringing home a total of 102 medals from World and European Championships, the World Universiade, and the Balkan Games. This international tally comprised 55 gold, 20 silver, and 27 bronze medals, highlighting their competitive edge on a global scale.
Governor Praises Athletes’ Dedication and Impact
During the event, Governor Arushanyan emphasized the crucial role of athletes in elevating the region’s profile and congratulated them on their significant achievements. “We were discussing the format of the meeting, and for me, the preferred option was for all of you to participate, to have a warm and direct interaction with all of you – from our beginner athletes to veterans,” stated Governor Arushanyan.
He further added, “Our athletes, coaches, and veterans have done a tremendous job in calling Shirak Province and Gyumri a sports capital, in keeping our heads high. In many cases, behind our athletes are people who have spared no effort, and for us, everyone’s contribution and effort are valuable. You are the pride of Gyumri, Shirak Province, the ones who give us a voice.”
The Governor expressed his hope that the achievements of the current generation would inspire future athletes. “Generations will change, but thanks to you, our newcomers will have much to learn from you, and you will be the beacon that leads the new generation to victory and achievements. We are proud of you,” Arushanyan concluded, wishing new victories to the medal-winning athletes and many reasons for encouragement to their coaches.
