Yerevan, January 15 – Residents of the Armenian capital are expressing growing concern over hazardous road and sidewalk conditions, particularly in the aftermath of recent snowfall. The ‘Public Voice’ faction of the Yerevan City Council brought these issues to light on its Facebook page, citing numerous complaints from citizens.

Icy Sidewalks Lead to Injuries

According to reports from residents, many sidewalks across Yerevan remain uncleared, resulting in widespread black ice. This has led to a significant number of incidents where individuals have slipped and sustained fractures.

The ‘Public Voice’ faction specifically mentioned several problematic locations, including:

  • Moldovakan 4 Street
  • The intersection of Bagrevand and Moldovakan Streets
  • The area from Acharyan to Myasnikyan Street

These areas, among others, are reportedly covered in treacherous ice, posing a serious threat to pedestrians.

Poor Asphalt Quality Creates Potholes

In addition to icy conditions, residents are also complaining about the consequences of substandard asphalt work. Following the snowfall, numerous large potholes have appeared on city roads, particularly in areas where the asphalt quality was already poor. These potholes not only damage vehicles but also create dangerous driving conditions.

The ‘Public Voice’ faction shared images illustrating the extent of the problem, showing significant water accumulation in these newly formed depressions.

City Council Faction Calls for Action

The ‘Public Voice’ faction of the Yerevan City Council has voiced its strong disapproval of the current situation, urging city authorities to take immediate action to address these pressing infrastructure concerns. The faction emphasized that the safety and well-being of Yerevan’s residents should be a top priority.

This is not the first time that issues related to urban infrastructure and public services have been raised in Yerevan. Citizens frequently report problems with public transport, waste management, and the overall maintenance of public spaces. The current situation with icy sidewalks and damaged roads further exacerbates these concerns, highlighting a need for more effective municipal management and oversight.

As winter progresses, residents are calling for a prompt and comprehensive response from the city administration to ensure safe passage for both pedestrians and vehicles. The long-term implications of neglected infrastructure could lead to further accidents and a decline in public trust in local governance.
