According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, 29-year-old Robert G. from Yerevan took his wife to the maternity ward of Astghik Medical Center on January 14 for the birth of their first child. The father and his family members remained at the hospital, eagerly awaiting the good news. However, shortly after, the hospital informed the father that the newborn boy had died during childbirth. The mother reportedly requested a C-section, but a nurse allegedly stated she was not authorized to perform such a procedure.
Parents Accuse Doctors, Criminal Proceedings Initiated
The newborn’s relatives hold two doctors from Astghik Medical Center, Svetlana Varazdatovna and Hasmik Harutyunyan, responsible for the death of their child. Today, the parents submitted an application to the Malatia Investigative Department of the Yerevan City Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
In response to the complaint, a criminal proceeding has been initiated based on the incident. The investigator has ordered forensic medical examinations to determine the exact cause of death and to ascertain if any medical malpractice occurred.
