Teenage Brawl in Yerevan Escalates to Gunfire, One Injured
Yerevan, January 20 – A dispute among minors on January 14 in Yerevan turned violent, involving a physical altercation and a gunshot. One individual sustained injuries during the incident that took place near 23 Abovyan Street.
At approximately 2:20 PM on January 14, the Central Department of the Community Police, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, received an operational report indicating that children had stabbed each other near 23 Abovyan Street.
Investigation Reveals Details of the Confrontation
According to information from G. Shamshyan, police and patrol officers, through operative-investigative measures, established that the incident stemmed from an argument over insults between 17-year-old H.S. and 15-year-old A.D., both residents of Yerevan, a few days prior. To resolve the issue, they met on January 14 at 23 Abovyan Street. They were accompanied by their friends: 15-year-old G.D., 14-year-old N.T., 15-year-old R.H., 15-year-old A.Sh., 15-year-old A.M., and other unidentified individuals.
During the meeting, the group grossly violated public order, showed open disrespect towards society, exchanged blows, and shouted loud insults. In the midst of the altercation, one participant fired an air pistol, damaging the storefront window of the “Miniso” store. Another participant used a sharp cutting-piercing object to inflict bodily harm on A.D., who was subsequently transported to the “Wigmore” Medical Center.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
Following the incident, documents were compiled by the Central Department of the Police and transferred to the Investigative Department of Yerevan City, specifically the Central and Nork-Marash administrative districts’ investigative division, under the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
This incident highlights growing concerns regarding youth violence in the city. Authorities are urging parents and educators to engage more actively with young people to prevent such occurrences in the future. The investigation is ongoing to identify all individuals involved and to determine the full extent of their participation in the altercation. The condition of the injured minor, A.D., has not been publicly disclosed.
