Road Accident in Shirak Province: Land Rover Hits Road Worker, Collides with Salt Spreader

Shirak Province, Armenia, February 9 – A road worker was injured today in a traffic accident on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway in the Shirak Province. The incident, which occurred around 11:40 AM, involved a Land Rover striking a worker from the “Talin” road construction company and then colliding with the rear of a salt and sand spreading vehicle.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, who was at the scene, citizens, police patrols from the Shirak regional battalion of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by battalion commander Levon Martirosyan, and firefighters from the Talin fire-rescue squad, along with an ambulance team from the “Talin” Medical Center, were the first responders.

Medical personnel provided first aid to the injured worker on site before transporting them to the “Talin” Medical Center. From there, the worker was transferred by reanimobile to a specialized hospital in Yerevan for further treatment. The identity of the vehicle drivers and the injured worker is currently being established.

Investigation Underway

A criminal case has been initiated by the Talin Investigative Department regarding the incident. Authorities are working to determine whether the injured individual was the driver or a passenger of the “Talin” road construction company’s vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts regarding road conditions at the time of the accident varied. Some citizens present at the scene claimed the road was icy, while others asserted it was passable.

This incident is one of several road accidents reported in the region recently. On February 4, a Mercedes hit a pedestrian near the “Megamall” shopping center. On January 28, a 23-year-old man was run over by his own Niva car. On January 17, a commander of an Armenian Ministry of Defense unit in the Syunik Province struck a 4th-grade student. On December 26, 2025, a drunk driver in the Gegharkunik Province hit a pedestrian, who was then transported to Yerevan in serious condition. On December 24, 2025, a 34-year-old driver in Ashtarak Square hit three girls, two of whom were underage twins. Another chain collision occurred in Abovyan on December 24, 2025, where one of the drivers was also hit. On December 14, 2025, a 22-year-old Mercedes driver in Vanadzor hit a 73-year-old pedestrian, who died on the spot. On December 2, 2025, a Mercedes Vito hit a pedestrian in Armavir. On November 23, 2025, a pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit in front of a church in Abovyan. On November 21, 2025, a Kamaz truck hit a 13-year-old girl, who died at the scene.

The investigation into today’s accident continues as authorities gather more information to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
