TEHRAN, March 1, 2026 – Explosions have rocked the vicinity of St. Sarkis Armenian Church in Tehran. Kristina Vardanyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council, shared on her Facebook page, “Two years ago, we were at St. Sarkis Cathedral in Tehran, a liturgy was served, and a museum operates in the area… It is located in the central part of the city, where administrative and governmental structures are located.”

Church in the Line of Fire

Vardanyan further stated, “Today, the church is in the epicenter of bombardment. The cathedral is located in the central district of Tehran (close to diplomatic and administrative quarters).” This area of the city is concentrated with:

  • State institutions

Tehran is a densely populated megacity with 9.5 million inhabitants, and religious, residential, and administrative buildings are often in close proximity.
