Weather Alert: Active Cyclone Brings Unstable Conditions to Armenia

Yerevan, March 27 – An active cyclone moving in from the south is set to bring significant weather changes across Armenia from March 27 to 31. Most regions are expected to experience intermittent precipitation, with wet snow in mountainous areas and rain in foothills and valleys. Some areas will also see reduced horizontal visibility and strong winds, with gusts reaching 14-17 m/s.

Intense Precipitation in Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Lori, and Tavush

Particularly intense precipitation is forecast for Syunik and isolated areas of Vayots Dzor on March 27. Lori and Tavush provinces are also expected to receive heavy rainfall from March 27 to 28.

Increased Water Levels in Rivers

The anticipated precipitation will lead to increased water discharge in the country’s rivers from March 27 to 28. Significant increases are expected in the basins of the Voghji, Gorisget, Meghriget, Arpa, Debed, and Aghstev rivers, raising concerns about potential flooding in these areas.

Yerevan’s Forecast: Rain and Thunderstorms

The capital city, Yerevan, will experience intermittent rain from March 27 to 31. On March 30-31, there is a possibility of thunderstorms, accompanied by stronger winds of 12-15 m/s during the storms.

Temperature Fluctuations

Temperatures will also see fluctuations. On the afternoon of March 26, the air temperature is expected to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius. However, it will gradually decrease by 2-4 degrees Celsius on the afternoons of March 27-28.

Across the Republic of Armenia, from March 27 to 31, most regions will experience intermittent precipitation. Mountainous zones will see wet snow, while foothill and valley areas will receive rain. On March 27, precipitation will be significant in Syunik and isolated mountainous regions, accompanied by low horizontal visibility. Thunderstorms are also possible in some places on March 30-31. Winds will be southwesterly at 2-5 m/s, with gusts of 13-17 m/s expected in certain regions from March 27-30.
