Football Academy to be Constructed in Martuni, Gegharkunik Province
Yerevan, March 28 – A new football academy is set to be constructed in Martuni, a town located in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. The announcement was made by Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan on his official Facebook page.
Official Visit to the Construction Site
Governor Sargsyan confirmed the plans after a joint visit to the proposed construction site. He was accompanied by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khoudatyan, President of the Football Federation of Armenia Armen Melikbekyan, and other partners.
“Together with Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khoudatyan, President of the Football Federation Armen Melikbekyan, and other partners, we visited Getapnya Street in Martuni to inspect the area where a football academy is planned to be built in the near future,” Governor Sargsyan wrote in his post.

This project is part of a series of developments in the Gegharkunik Province. Recently, four projects were approved within the framework of the “Participatory Budgeting – 2026” process in the Sevan community. Additionally, construction work for a new kindergarten building continues in Khachaghbyur, and the Karchaghbyur secondary school building is undergoing renovation.
The Armenian government has allocated 277,492.7 thousand drams for three vital projects being implemented in Gegharkunik, further demonstrating the commitment to regional development.
Context of Sports Development in Armenia
The announcement comes amidst a period of increased focus on sports and cultural events in Armenia. The 10th International Francophonie Games are expected to attract nearly 4,000 participants, with the opening ceremony scheduled to take place in Yerevan’s Republic Square.
