Widespread Violations in Egg Production Sector; Products Recalled from Market
YEREVAN, March 31 – In anticipation of the Easter holiday and to ensure the safety of eggs for consumers, the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia has conducted comprehensive inspections in the egg production and sales market.
The inspections involved sampling and control purchases from various egg production companies, including “Vlad Hakobyan’s Combined Fodder Plant” CJSC, “Araks Poultry Farm” CJSC, “Ashtarak Dzu” LLC, “Gntunik” LLC, “Variant Group” LLC, “Gndevaz Farm” LLC, “Haga” LLC, “Ararat” LLC, “Arzni Pedigree Poultry Farm” CJSC, “Lusakert “Elite”” LLC, Artur Harutyunyan IE, and “Aramus” LLC. Inspections also covered several large retail outlets in Yerevan and other regions.
Violations Identified in Production and Retail
During the monitoring of egg production companies, violations were recorded only at “Arzni Pedigree Poultry Farm” CJSC. According to laboratory test results, the sample of “chicken egg, grade 01, produced on 23.03.2026” did not meet the requirements for first-class table eggs as per HST 182-2012 standards.
In the retail sector, control purchases were made from various batches of fresh table eggs from producers such as “Ashtarak,” “Araks,” “Arzni,” “Arzni Iodized,” “Gntunik,” “ETF,” “Elite,” “Erebuni,” “Taarm,” “Koko,” “Natur Food,” “Shirak,” “OTF,” “Voskehat,” “Stepanyan Farm,” and “NOVOROSSP/F.”
Laboratory analyses revealed that eggs from “Arzni” (production dates: 24.03 and 10.03), “ETF” (production dates: 13.03 and 21.03), and “Elite” (production date: 18.03) did not comply with the requirements for Class A first-class (table) eggs under HST 182-2012. These violations included porous shells, translucent and cloudy whites, non-elastic yolks upon breaking, and the presence of blood rings and distinct foreign odors.
Inconsistencies in Egg Grading and Labeling
Further inconsistencies were also found in the grading of fresh table eggs. Specifically, the egg grades for “Araks” (production dates: 24.03, 26.03, and 27.03), “Arzni” (production date: 20.03), “Gntunik” (production date: 25.03), “ETF” (production date: 25.03), “Elite” (production date: 18.03), “Erebuni” (production date: 17.03), “Taarm” (production date: 21.03), “Koko” (production date: 20.03), “Shirak” (production dates: 14.03, 26.03, 22.03, 18.03, and 24.03), and “OTF” (production date: 26.03) did not match the grades indicated on their labels.
As a result of these findings, orders have been issued to prohibit the sale, recall from the market, destroy, or dispose of the non-compliant batches of products.
The inspections are ongoing, and further results will be presented subsequently.
