Martuni, July 6 – In a collaborative effort involving the Martuni Municipality, the “Armenia Tree Project” charitable organization (with the generous support of Judith Sarian, Victor Zarougian, and their family), and the “Democracy Today” NGO, two new greenhouses, each covering an area of 117 square meters, have been built within the premises of Kindergarten No. 4 in Martuni city. Although the official opening of the greenhouses took place at the end of 2025, the first harvest is currently underway, with kindergarten children also participating in the event.
Fresh Produce and Educational Opportunities for Children
As reported to “Armenpress” by the Martuni Municipality staff, the primary goal of this project extends beyond simply providing fresh vegetables to children. It aims to instill in them, from an early age, an understanding of how food is produced. This initiative serves as an educational foundation, teaching children about sustainable agriculture and the journey of food from farm to table.
The inaugural harvest of the year recently took place, marked by the festive gathering of representatives from the charitable organization, the Martuni Municipality staff, and community kindergartens, alongside the young students themselves. The first crop of cucumbers was collected during this celebratory event.
The ecologically clean produce is specifically intended for the community’s kindergartens, ensuring that children receive fresh, healthy, and vitamin-rich food. This direct supply chain guarantees that the children have access to high-quality, locally grown ingredients, contributing to their overall well-being and nutritional intake.
Partnership and Community Impact
The construction of these greenhouses is a testament to the power of collaboration between local government and non-governmental organizations. The involvement of the Martuni Municipality ensures the project’s integration into the local community and its long-term sustainability. The “Armenia Tree Project” brings its expertise in environmental initiatives and community development, while “Democracy Today” NGO contributes to fostering civic engagement and educational opportunities.
The project not only addresses the nutritional needs of young children but also creates a tangible link between education and practical life skills. By involving the children in the harvesting process, the initiative provides a hands-on learning experience that complements their classroom education. This direct engagement helps children appreciate the value of fresh produce and understand the efforts involved in its cultivation.
Future Prospects and Broader Implications
The success of this initial harvest underscores the potential for similar projects to be implemented in other communities. The model of providing fresh, locally grown produce to educational institutions offers a sustainable solution for improving children’s diets and promoting environmental awareness. This initiative can serve as a blueprint for fostering healthier communities and encouraging agricultural education across the region.
The Martuni Municipality and its partners are optimistic about the future impact of these greenhouses. They anticipate that the project will continue to provide significant benefits to the local kindergartens, contributing to the health and education of Martuni’s youngest residents for years to come. The ongoing collaboration highlights a commitment to community development and the well-being of future generations.
