Yerevan’s Hrazdan Stadium to Undergo Major Renovation for Francophonie Games
Yerevan, Armenia – The sports infrastructure of Yerevan’s Hrazdan Stadium is set for a comprehensive modernization. The Armenian government has approved the allocation of 63.135 million drams for the acquisition of design and estimation documents, specifically for the reconstruction of the stadium’s athletic track.
The ambitious project aims to bring the Hrazdan Stadium’s athletic track up to international standards, a crucial step as Yerevan prepares to host the 2027 Francophonie Games. This significant investment underscores Armenia’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for major international events.
Preparatory Works and Technical Assessment
Prior to the commencement of reconstruction, it is essential to obtain the necessary design and estimation documents in accordance with Armenian urban development and procurement legislation. A technical inspection and certification of the Hrazdan Stadium have already been conducted, revealing the current capacity of its stands.
According to the assessment, the southern and northern stands of the stadium can be utilized at 50% of their capacity, accommodating 11,750 spectators. The western stand is fully operational, capable of seating 8,100 people. The first 11 rows of the eastern stand can also be used at 100% capacity, providing 1,716 seats. Seating on the upper tiers of the eastern stand is not currently planned. Based on these figures, the Hrazdan Stadium can presently host approximately 21,566 spectators.
Extensive Renovation Scope
Beyond the athletic track, the comprehensive renovation will encompass various other improvements. These include general landscaping of the stadium area, capital repairs, and other construction works. Essential facilities such as changing rooms and restrooms will also be upgraded to meet contemporary standards, ensuring a comfortable and functional environment for athletes and spectators alike.
The Committee for Urban Development of the Republic of Armenia has developed the technical specifications for the required design and estimation documents. Price proposals based on these specifications have been received. The design of the stadium’s reconstruction has been entrusted to ‘Armproject’ CJSC.
Financial Allocation and Future Prospects
Simultaneously, a cost estimate for the construction works has been prepared in accordance with Armenian legislation. After averaging the received price proposals and construction costs, 61.0 million drams have been allocated for the development of design and estimation documents, with an additional 2.135 million drams designated for the examination of these documents.
The reconstruction of Hrazdan Stadium is a pivotal project for Yerevan, not only in preparation for the 2027 Francophonie Games but also for enhancing the city’s overall sports infrastructure. This initiative is expected to boost Armenia’s profile as a host for international sporting and cultural events, attracting more visitors and fostering national pride.
The Francophonie Games, a quadrennial event combining sports and cultural competitions, will bring together participants from French-speaking countries and regions worldwide. Hosting such a prestigious event will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for Armenia, promoting cultural exchange and athletic excellence.
The government’s proactive approach in funding the preparatory stages of this renovation highlights its vision for a modernized and internationally competitive sports arena in the heart of Yerevan.
