Worker Dies After Falling from 7th Floor at Yerevan Construction Site
Yerevan, August 25 – A tragic incident occurred yesterday evening, August 24, at an elite multi-apartment building under construction in the center of Yerevan. At approximately 7:00 PM, the Central Department of the Community Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia received operational information about a body found at the construction site located at 3/2 Hin Yerevantsi Street.
Upon arrival, the duty group of the Central Department of the Police, led by acting head Vazgen Tadevosyan, confirmed the presence of the deceased. Medics from Yerevan’s 1-03 ambulance service, who also arrived promptly, pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigation Launched
Patrol officers from the 2nd battalion, 2nd company of the Yerevan City Regiment of the Patrol Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, led by regiment commander Andranik Khachatryan, battalion commander Karen Gevorgyan, deputy battalion commander Karen Avetisyan, and deputy company commander Khachik Harutyunyan, also responded to the scene. The area was cordoned off by patrol officers Vahe Muradyan and Sahak Mirzoyan.
Information about the incident was forwarded from the Central Police Department to the 3rd Department of the Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of the Yerevan City Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee. An investigative group, headed by the department chief and the duty investigator, arrived to conduct further proceedings.
A criminal case has been initiated by the investigative department to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Victim Identified as Elevator Company Employee
According to information from G. Shamshyan, the deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Mikhail Arakelov, a resident of Kotayk Province. Arakelov was employed by “Electrolift” company and was reportedly performing work at the mentioned building when he fell from the 7th floor into the elevator shaft. The contractor for the building is “Spitak Tnak” LLC, and the technical supervisor is “Vrezh Sargsyan” Individual Entrepreneur. Construction of the building commenced on July 6, 2023, and is scheduled for completion on July 6, 2025.
This incident highlights concerns regarding safety protocols at construction sites in Yerevan. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain whether all necessary safety measures were in place and adhered to at the time of the accident.
