YEREVAN, August 25 – The Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB) has suspended the production of chicken shawarma at the ‘Food Master’ public catering facility, located at Tigran Petrosyan 27/2 in Yerevan. The decision comes after an inspection revealed that the facility was producing food products that did not comply with safety and hygiene requirements set by the Customs Union’s technical regulations on food safety.

Dangerous Microorganisms Found in Chicken Shawarma

Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of several dangerous microorganisms in samples of the chicken shawarma product. These included mesophilic aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms (MAFAM), coliform bacteria (CFB), and Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureus). These indicators were found to be non-compliant with the established food safety standards, posing a potential risk to public health.

Production Halted Until Violations Are Corrected

By the decision of the head of the inspection body, the specific function of ‘Food Master’s production activity – the production of chicken shawarma – has been suspended. The suspension will remain in effect until all identified violations are rectified by the facility. This measure aims to ensure that food products distributed to consumers meet the necessary safety and quality standards.

Previous Inspections and Suspensions

This incident is part of a broader trend of increased scrutiny by the FSIB. In recent months, several other businesses in Armenia have faced similar suspensions due to food safety and hygiene violations:

  • August 21, 2026: Production of 3 types of ‘Tsovinar’ brand beverages was suspended.

  • August 18, 2026: The activities of the ‘AMAR’ LLC restaurant complex were terminated and sealed.
  • August 10, 2026: Production activities of ‘Bambu’ bar-restaurant in Yerevan were suspended due to sanitary and hygienic violations.
  • August 10, 2026: FSIB suspended the activities of ‘Tsovazard’ carbonated beverage production facility.

  • August 7, 2026: Production activities of a carbonated beverage production facility were suspended.
  • August 6, 2026: Production activities of ‘Sweet Tale’ carbonated beverage production facility in Stepanavan were suspended.

These actions underscore the FSIB’s commitment to protecting consumer health and enforcing strict adherence to food safety regulations across the country. The repeated suspensions highlight ongoing challenges within the food production and catering sectors to maintain consistent compliance with established standards.
