Vandalism on Yerevan Bus: Monitor Damaged by Passenger
Yerevan, August 30 – An act of vandalism took place on a public transport bus in Yerevan on August 19, when a passenger reportedly damaged a monitor inside the vehicle. The incident, which occurred on a Route 47 bus, resulted in an estimated 550,000 AMD (approximately 1,500 USD) in damages.
The alarm was raised at approximately 3:05 PM when the Kanaker-Zeytun police department of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs received a report that a passenger had struck and damaged a monitor in a bus operating on Route 47. An operational group from the Kanaker-Zeytun police department, led by a community police officer, was dispatched to the scene.
Driver Reports Altercation and Damage
According to information provided by G. Shamshyan, the driver of the “Yerevan Bus” CJSC, 44-year-old Igor Ts., a resident of Yerevan, informed the police that at approximately 2:40 PM, near 18 Kanaker 1st Street, a female passenger had an argument with him regarding exiting through the front door. During the altercation, the woman reportedly struck the monitor located in the bus cabin, causing its screen to be damaged.
The police identified the woman as 45-year-old Heriknaz P., a resident of Yerevan. Documentation regarding the incident has been compiled by the Kanaker-Zeytun police department and forwarded to the Investigative Department of Yerevan City of the RA Investigative Committee, specifically the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district’s investigative division, for further proceedings.

This incident is not isolated, as public transport in Yerevan has seen other notable events recently. On August 11, there was a tragic incident on a Route 67 bus where a passenger fell ill and later died. Additionally, on August 17, there were reports of a dispatcher believing they had the right to “educate” a passenger by beating them, highlighting ongoing issues within the public transportation system.
