YEREVAN, September 5 – Two members of the Yerevan City Council have submitted proposals for renaming streets within the city. These initiatives aim to honor historical figures and prominent individuals, reflecting a broader trend of cultural and historical recognition within the capital.
Proposals from the City Council
Hayk Grigoryan, a member of the ‘National Progress’ faction of the Yerevan City Council, has proposed renaming Tichina Street in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district to ‘Yervandunian Street’. This street, which begins at the intersection with Metsarents Street and extends to the beginning of Shahumyan Cemetery, would honor the ancient Armenian Yervandunian dynasty. This proposal follows Grigoryan’s previous initiative to rename Amiryan Street in the Kentron administrative district after the Armenian King Pap.
Separately, Hayk Mirzoyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Culture, Education, and Social Affairs of the Yerevan City Council and a member of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction, has put forward a proposal to rename the 13th Street of Nerkin Shengavit in the Shengavit administrative district to ‘Azat Gasparyan Street’. This street, which starts from the 1st lane of Armen Khostikyan Street and reaches Shiraki Street, would commemorate the renowned Armenian actor Azat Gasparyan.
