Gyumri, September 7 – The Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB) has ordered the suspension of operations at the “Hamov Hotov” public catering facility in Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia. The decision follows an inspection that revealed numerous violations of sanitary and hygienic standards.

Details of the Inspection and Identified Violations

The inspection, conducted by FSIB inspectors at the facility located at Shahumyan 190/4, Gyumri, uncovered several critical deficiencies:

  • Some sections of the food establishment’s walls were uneven and not maintained in a repaired condition.
  • Parts of the ceiling were not repaired, showing accumulation of dirt and a risk of particles falling into food.
  • Internal opening windows lacked easily removable and cleanable insect screens.
  • The facility did not have a restroom, a functioning sewage system, a sink for handwashing, a separate storage area for detergents and disinfectants, or a changing room for staff.

These findings indicate a serious disregard for public health and safety regulations, necessitating immediate action from the FSIB.

FSIB’s Decision and Previous Actions

By decision of the head of the inspection body, the production activities of the public catering facility have been suspended until all identified violations are eliminated. This measure is aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety standards and protecting consumers from potential health risks.

This is not an isolated incident for the FSIB. In recent weeks, the body has taken similar actions across Armenia:

  • On September 4, 2026, FSIB suspended the production of pear-flavored beverages at the “Malishka N1” workshop in Malishka due to non-conformities.
  • Also on September 4, 2026, the production of “Chanakh” cheese by individual entrepreneur Arpine Ordyan in Verishen, Goris, was suspended due to identified violations.
  • On August 31, 2026, the FSIB suspended the operations of a tomato paste production workshop in Vanadzor.
  • On September 4, 2026, the FSIB also suspended the operations of a public catering facility in Mrgavan village, Ararat Province, due to gross sanitary violations.

These consecutive suspensions highlight a proactive approach by the FSIB to enforce food safety regulations and ensure that food establishments adhere to the required standards across the country.

Impact on Public Health and Future Steps

The suspension of “Hamov Hotov” serves as a reminder to all public catering facilities about the importance of maintaining strict hygiene and sanitary conditions. Non-compliance can lead to severe consequences, including operational shutdowns and damage to reputation.

The FSIB will continue to monitor food establishments and take necessary measures to safeguard public health. Facilities found in violation of regulations will be required to implement corrective actions before being allowed to resume operations.
