Yerevan, September 29 – Construction has officially commenced on the Noragavit 1st Street intersection, a significant transport hub located at the southern entrance of Yerevan. This large-scale reconstruction project aims to alleviate long-standing traffic congestion and improve road safety in one of the city’s busiest areas.
Mayor Avinyan Highlights Project Benefits
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan shared a video on his Facebook page, announcing the start of the construction. He emphasized the critical importance of this project for the city’s infrastructure.
“This is one of the most heavily loaded sections entering the city, where traffic jams and accident-prone situations have occurred for years,” Avinyan stated. “The project involves the construction of a 272-meter overpass and two underpasses, measuring 28 meters and 22 meters respectively.”
The Mayor further elaborated on the expected outcomes: “As a result, the traffic flows entering, exiting, and transiting the city will be completely separated. This will significantly relieve the southern entrance, improve connections with the North-South highway, and make movement incomparably safer and faster for residents of Noragavit and adjacent areas.”
Project Details and Funding
Avinyan confirmed that all tenders have been completed and contracts signed for the reconstruction. The project, valued at 1.5 billion drams, is being implemented with the support of the Armenian government.
“We are implementing this large-scale project with the support of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, and in 16 months, we will have safe and uninterrupted traffic here,” the Mayor wrote.

The intersection of Artashat Highway – M2 – H8 – Noragavit 1st Street has long been a bottleneck for traffic entering and exiting Yerevan.
