Yerevan, September 26 – The Armenian men’s national chess team secured a notable 2.5:1.5 victory against Azerbaijan in the 9th round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad. The match, held as part of the ongoing international tournament, saw Grandmaster Gabriel Sargsyan clinch the winning point by defeating Grandmaster Rauf Mamedov.
The games involving Grandmasters Hayk Martirosyan, Robert Hovhannisyan, and Shant Sargsyan all concluded in draws, contributing to Armenia’s overall triumph in this crucial round. Following 9 rounds of play, the Armenian men’s team has accumulated 15 team points out of a possible 18, comprising 6 wins and 3 draws. This performance places them strongly within the competition.
