Yerevan Prepares for Major Road Construction Project
Yerevan, July 20, 2026 – The construction of the Arshakunyats-Isakov road, a significant infrastructure project in the Armenian capital, is set to begin this July. The announcement was made by Aneta Babayan, Advisor to the Mayor of Yerevan, during a working consultation at the Yerevan City Hall.
Preparations Concluded, Project Ready for Launch
Babayan confirmed that all necessary procedures, in accordance with international standards, have been successfully completed. These include the approval of the compliance report by an external auditing company, the mobilization of the engineer and contractor, and the resolution of various financial matters. The contractor has already submitted the work plan for the engineer’s approval, indicating that the project is on track for its imminent start.
Connecting Key Districts and Alleviating Traffic
The new Arshakunyats-Isakov road is designed to establish a crucial link between the Malatia-Sebastia, Kentron, and Shengavit districts. This connection is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion across the city and enhance transport accessibility for Yerevan’s residents. The project is a key initiative in the city’s efforts to modernize its infrastructure and improve urban mobility.
Additional Roadwork and Overpass Project Underway
In related news, the Advisor also announced that road construction on Sherami Street will commence this month. Furthermore, regarding the Noragavit overpass, Babayan stated that all agreements have been signed, and funding approval is currently pending. “We have submitted the necessary justifications to the financial department to apply for government funding,” Babayan explained, adding that “this project will require up to 400 million drams.”
Project Details: Bridge Construction and Greening Initiatives
As previously reported by the City Hall, the Arshakunyats-Isakov project includes the construction of a 269-meter reinforced concrete bridge over the Hrazdan River. Additionally, there are plans for landscaping and greening initiatives near Komitas Park, aiming to integrate the new infrastructure seamlessly with the urban environment and enhance green spaces.
