The individual allegedly presented himself as an employee of the Yerevan Registration and Examination Department, exploiting the trust of various citizens.
Police Investigation and Arrest Details
The Erebuni police department received operational intelligence regarding a man offering to provide driving licenses for a fee. This information was corroborated by reports of similar fraudulent activities filed on March 20, May 14, and May 20. Following these reports, Erebuni community police launched an operative-investigative operation to identify and apprehend the suspect.
As a result of these measures, the identity of the aforementioned individual was established. On May 20, the 54-year-old man was located and arrested in the area of the Yerevan Registration and Examination Department. He was subsequently transferred to the Erebuni department, and the compiled documents were submitted to the preliminary investigation body.
Previous Cases and Ongoing Proceedings
This incident is not isolated. Previous reports indicate similar cases of individuals attempting to obtain driving licenses through illicit means. For instance, on December 29, 2017, a case involving a driving license obtained through bribery was reported. Another case on December 1, 2017, detailed a 160,000 AMD bribe for ‘B’ and ‘C’ category driving licenses, with the case being handled by the Special Investigation Service (SIS). On January 20, 2014, the SIS also reported a case where a driving license was acquired through bribery.
Police Warning to Citizens
The police emphasize that driving licenses can only be obtained through legal procedures, which include successfully passing theoretical and practical examinations. They warn that illegal activities will inevitably come to the attention of law enforcement and will be subject to legal evaluation.
The investigation into the current case is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the preliminary proceedings continue.
