Gyumri Discusses 2026-2030 Tourism Cluster Development Program
Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia, August 2 – A significant meeting took place at the Shirak Provincial Administration, focusing on the strategic development of tourism in the region. The gathering brought together Lusine Gevorgyan, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, Davit Arushanyan, Governor of Shirak Province, and representatives of companies operating in the tourism sector within the province.
The primary agenda of the meeting was the presentation of the 2026-2030 strategic plan and the cluster development programs for the upcoming five years. Participants engaged in discussions regarding the priority issues facing the tourism sector and received answers to their questions from both state and private institutions.
Working Visit to Gyumri
As part of the visit, the Governor of Shirak Province and the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy conducted a working tour of Gyumri. During this tour, they discussed the work planned for the next phase of the cluster development program, emphasizing practical steps for its implementation.
World Bank Investment in Armenian Tourism
It is noteworthy that the World Bank has allocated 100 million USD for the creation of 10 tourism clusters in Armenia. These clusters are planned for various locations, including Areni, Jermuk, Goris, Dvin, Gyumri, Aparan, Yeghegis, Sevan, Dilijan, and others. This ambitious program is scheduled to be implemented between 2025 and 2029, promising a significant boost to the country’s tourism infrastructure.
Gyumri’s Growing Appeal to Tourists
According to data from 2024, approximately 11,000 tourists visit Gyumri annually as part of organized tours. This figure highlights the city’s established appeal and the potential for further growth through targeted development initiatives.
The discussions held in Gyumri underscore a concerted effort to enhance Armenia’s tourism sector, with a particular focus on sustainable growth and regional development. The involvement of both governmental bodies and private enterprises indicates a collaborative approach to achieving these goals, aiming to position Gyumri and other designated areas as prominent tourist destinations.
