The Shirak regional department of the Human Rights Defender’s Office of Armenia hosted students from Gyumri’s Basic School No. 25 and Secondary School No. 27. The visits were educational, aiming to introduce the students to the activities of the Human Rights Defender’s institution.

Educational Visit to Promote Awareness of Human Rights

Lusine Nahapetyan, head of the Shirak regional department of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, presented the history of the institution, the functions of the Defender, and the procedure for appealing to the Defender. The meeting was conducted in a question-and-answer format, allowing students to raise practical questions relevant to them.

Students Engaged in Interactive Session

The interactive session provided a valuable opportunity for the schoolchildren to gain a deeper understanding of human rights protection mechanisms in Armenia. Such initiatives are crucial for fostering civic engagement and promoting awareness among the younger generation about their rights and the institutions dedicated to safeguarding them.

The Role of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in Shirak Province

The Human Rights Defender’s Office plays a vital role in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms in Armenia. Its regional departments, like the one in Shirak, serve as accessible points of contact for citizens seeking assistance and information regarding their rights. By engaging with educational institutions, the office aims to build a more informed and empowered citizenry.

Future Initiatives for Youth Engagement

The Human Rights Defender’s Office regularly conducts outreach programs and educational events to promote human rights awareness across various age groups. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to ensure that all citizens, especially the youth, are knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities, and know where to turn for protection and redress.

The visit concluded with a positive exchange between the students and the representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, reinforcing the importance of human rights education from an early age.
