Yerevan, April 20 – The condition of two individuals injured in an explosion at the Nubarashan landfill on April 18 remains stable but serious. Sargis Khachatryan, 36, the landfill director, and Edik Misakyan, 54, an employee, were both affected by the blast.
Victims Show Positive Dynamics, Respiratory Organs Unaffected
David Karapetyan, Head of the Health Department of the Yerevan City Hall, reported during a working consultation that both men are in a stable, serious condition. “As of this morning, there is a slight positive dynamic for both the director and the employee. They currently have 15 percent burns on their hands and face. Importantly, their respiratory organs are not affected and are clear,” Karapetyan stated.
Biogas Accumulation Led to Explosion
Arsen Karoyan, Head of the Communal Economy Department, explained that the explosion was caused by an accumulation of biogas and carbon monoxide in a sewage line within a restroom. The director, after noticing an unpleasant smell, entered the area to investigate, switched on the light, and the explosion occurred.
