TRIPP Project: Armenia-US Infrastructure Construction Expected in 2026
Yerevan, June 26 – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Thursday that the TRIPP infrastructure project, a significant initiative between Armenia and the United States, is anticipated to commence construction as early as 2026. The Prime Minister confirmed the absence of political and financial hurdles, signaling a smooth progression for the project.
Project Implementation and Bilateral Cooperation
During a press briefing following a government session on June 25, the head of government elaborated that the implementation of the framework agreement, signed between Washington and Yerevan on June 4, is proceeding as planned. According to the Prime Minister, logistical, financial, design, and engineering issues are being actively discussed on at least a weekly basis.
Addressing the broader agenda of Armenia-US cooperation, Pashinyan stated that a crucial bilateral document is expected to be ratified soon, immediately after which the practical implementation phase will begin.
“The process is moving forward, and if technical issues do not interfere, we want to see construction work on the ground this year,” the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that there are no artificial obstacles to the project’s success.
About the TRIPP Infrastructure Project
The TRIPP infrastructure project is one of the key initiatives in Armenia-US economic and strategic cooperation. The framework agreement for this project was signed by both parties on June 4. The program aims to develop Armenia’s logistical, transport, and engineering capabilities with the support of the United States, thereby promoting the country’s infrastructural resilience and the implementation of large-scale construction projects.
Opposition Criticism and Concerns
Meanwhile, the Armenian opposition has sharply criticized this initiative. Specifically, Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, has dubbed the TRIPP project (also known as the “Trump Route”) a unique “gift” from the US to Turkey and Azerbaijan, directly threatening the republic’s national security. According to the former leader, the project offers no real economic advantages to Yerevan and is merely a propaganda move by Washington aimed at creating tension in relations between Yerevan and Tehran.
