Yerevan, June 25 – The Yerevan Municipality’s press service announced that temporary traffic restrictions will be in effect in the Erebuni administrative district from June 29 to December 9. These measures are being implemented to ensure road safety during ongoing road construction work.
Affected Area and Duration of Restrictions
The specific section of road that will be closed is the segment connecting Arin Berd Street and the 5th lane of Artsakh Avenue. This closure, spanning from June 29 to December 9, aims to facilitate the construction process and minimize risks to commuters.
Previous and Upcoming Traffic Changes in Yerevan
This is not the first instance of traffic adjustments in Yerevan. The city has seen several temporary road closures and traffic alterations in recent months. For example, on May 27, several streets in Yerevan were closed, and circular traffic around Republic Square was temporarily prohibited. Additionally, a summit of the European Political Community led to traffic restrictions on April 27.
Looking ahead, further disruptions are anticipated. On July 25, the Isahakyan-Tamanyan intersection will be closed to traffic. Changes in traffic organization were also implemented on March 7. In November 2024, traffic on Mashtots Avenue was halted for New Year’s festive decorations, and Isabekyan Street was temporarily closed. The Pushkin Tunnel also experienced a 30-minute closure and subsequent one-way traffic for three hours on October 27, 2024.
Purpose of the Restrictions
The municipality emphasizes that these restrictions are crucial for the safety of both construction workers and the general public. By temporarily closing off the affected areas, authorities can ensure that roadworks proceed efficiently and without incident. Commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance and consider alternative roads to avoid delays during this period.
Impact on Commuters
While necessary for infrastructure development, these temporary closures may cause inconvenience for residents and commuters in the Erebuni district. The municipality encourages the public to stay informed about the changes and to follow traffic signs and directions provided by law enforcement officials on site.
The long duration of the current restrictions, nearly six months, suggests a significant construction project in the Erebuni district. Residents are encouraged to seek updates from official municipal channels for the most current information regarding traffic flow and alternative routes.
The Yerevan Municipality expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding and cooperation during these essential infrastructure improvements.
