Armed Robbery in Yerevan: Indian Citizens Targeted

Yerevan, March 26 – An armed robbery targeting Indian citizens was reported to the Yerevan City Department of Criminal Police on March 9. The incident, which occurred around 02:10 AM, involved six individuals of Indian nationality who allegedly broke into an apartment, assaulted the residents, and stole money and a mobile phone.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, 25-year-old Shivam A., an Indian citizen, first called the police to report being chased with a knife. Subsequently, 34-year-old Manan M., also an Indian citizen, reported that someone had entered their apartment, assaulted him, and then left.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Shivam A. informed officers that around 01:30 AM on the same day, six unknown individuals of Indian nationality entered their apartment and demanded money. When Shivam A. stated he had no money, he was reportedly struck with a belt on his back and attacked with a knife on his face and head, sustaining bodily injuries. The assailants then allegedly stole a “Realmi C63” mobile phone from his pants pocket and 190,000 drams from under his mattress.

During the same incident, other Indian citizens residing at the same address were also assaulted. Manan M., Harpinder S. (37), Rahul (30), and Amrik S. (38) were also beaten. The robbers stole 35,000 AMD from Harpinder S., 6,000 AMD from Rahul, and 2,000 AMD from Amrik S., before fleeing the scene.

Suspects Identified

Photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan’s sources indicate that the perpetrators are believed to be Indian citizens: 37-year-old Jajmanjot D., 32-year-old Ram L., Mintu S., Anmol S., and Ajay K. Anmol S. is specifically accused of inflicting the knife wounds on Shivam A.

Investigation Underway

The Yerevan City Department of Criminal Police has launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items. The victims’ injuries are being assessed, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.

The incident highlights concerns among the expatriate community regarding safety and security in the city. Local authorities have assured a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
