YEREVAN, September 8, 2026 – Three individuals have been arrested and subsequently detained in Yerevan in connection with the attempted illegal sale of a particularly large quantity of drugs. The arrests were made as part of a criminal proceeding initiated by the General Department for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
Smuggled Marijuana Discovered in Yerevan
During the preliminary investigation, factual data was obtained indicating that a foreign national had smuggled approximately 5 kg of “Marijuana” into Armenia. This significant quantity of the drug is classified as a particularly large amount.
In cooperation with employees of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, measures were undertaken to locate the drugs. The location where the packages containing the narcotics were stored was identified. At the moment of retrieving the packages, Yerevan residents A.M., T.B., and D.B. were apprehended and transferred to the body conducting the proceedings.
Public Criminal Prosecution Initiated
By the decision of the supervising prosecutor, a public criminal prosecution has been initiated against A.M., T.B., and D.B. under Article 44-393, Part 3, Point 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. This article pertains to the illegal circulation of drugs for the purpose of sale, or the attempt of illegal sale of drugs, in particularly large quantities.
Following their apprehension and the initiation of criminal prosecution, A.M., T.B., and D.B. have been placed under arrest.
Investigation Continues
The preliminary investigation into this case is ongoing. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Note: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
